Take Caution in Love

Take caution when deciding to love someone

and allowing them to come into your life.

For when you choose to let them in,

you give them full authority to love you,

to hold you, to make you happy,

to give you the stars and the moon,

to treasure you, to enter your heart

and touch the deepest parts of yourself,

which sometimes you’d rather hide.

You also allow them to hurt you, perhaps more intensely

than they love you;

you allow them to lie to you, to keep things from you,

while hoping that they don’t;

you allow them to make you sad, to make you cry,

to make you long for their company, to yearn,

sometimes to the extent that is unbearable.

Take caution, for when you allow yourself to love,

you allow the other to take the love

that you so painstakingly treasured and nurtured

from the palm of your hands and do with it what they will,

while you hope that they realize how precious it is when they do.

Take caution, for they can take that love and

treasure it or abuse it;

nurture it or manipulate it;

return it a thousand fold or trample on it;

keep it in their heart or crush it until you bleed.

Take caution, but don’t be afraid to love,

to be loved, to be held, to get hurt, to cry,

to yearn and long for the other.

And if they choose not to honor and treasure the love you give them,

take courage, and know when it’s time to walk away;

be discerning and do not be blinded by honey-coated words

and flashy displays of affection.

Take caution in love, but keep on choosing love,

to love and be loved,

perchance the other person might just be your complementary soul.

Searching

We wander and roam aimlessly…

searching for souls whose hearts

beat to the rhythm of our own

to fill each other’s pockets

with memories…and moments

for our journey ahead…
