End of day Loving

I love the smell of the sun seeped into your hair

Mixed with the scent of shampoo you used this morning.

It reminds me of the summers of my childhood –

running along the shore on a bright sunny day…

seashells and sand sparkling in my memory…

Nostalgia slowly wraps its arms around me

and I wrap mine around you…

I snuggle closer…inhaling…

Taking in your scent and the comforting warmth of your back.

A Funeral

I finally buried the last love letter I wrote but never sent…

It now lies 6 feet under the farthest plot

in the graveyard of my heart under a blank headstone.

It’s buried alongside old dreams, unfulfilled plans and broken promises.

I held a wake a few days prior…delivered a eulogy and

said my last goodbye…

I wonder how long it will take for the paper to rot and decompose

And for the words to break down and become invisible particles

that mingle with faint memories…

One Night Love Affair

Rendezvous under coral pink skies and neon lit signs

A love affair like the rain at the height of summer…

Like a sudden shower on a bright sunny day – ending just as abruptly as it began;

Now all that’s left is the scent of cigarette smoke

blended with the muted aroma of last night’s coffee

and a hangover on nicotine & caffeine…
